2014 Season Highlights
January - The season started off with 2 home meets - the Northwest Open and Jack Johnson Classic. You can see those photos by clicking the links or using the drop down menu under 2014.
The Northwest Open took place on a cold, blustery Minnesota day. For the men, the pole vault and 600m were possibly the highlights. Though there were top finishes in the 800, mile and 4X4 relays as well. In the field events, the Gopher men did really well in shot, weight on long jump. For the women, they earned nine event titles over all with 2 meet records being broken. Alena Brooks zoomed around the track in the 600m setting a Northwest Open record of 1:29:65. Freshman Erin Hawkins topped the field in the 200m at 25 seconds breaking a record that had been standing for 14 years. In the field events, Becci Osterdyck won the shot put, Devin Stanford won the weight, Katie Loberg won the high jump and so on and so on. I know I have left out a bunch of names of amazing athletes. You can find the full results here.
Success continued at the Jack Johnson Classic. The Gophers won both the men's and the women's team titles. Competition included teams from Iowa, Michigan and Florida. I think the athletes from Florida were a bit amazed by our weather. I did not make it to the Friday competition. Still I have to admit that a highlight for me was to see the depth we are building in the multi-event competitions. Well done on that front, as well as all others. The full results of this meet are here.
