Jack Johnson Classic
U of Mn Fieldhouse
January 30, 2016
The Jack Johnson Classic honors the memory of Jack Johnson, who passed away in February 2006 after working more than 30 years as the Gopher equipment manager. His commitment to service is a big part of the Gopher track, field and cross country tradition.
MEN – For the second week in a row, Nick Bachinski picked up a personal record and a win in the high jump. The men took seven wins. Luke Johnson led the shot put competition for the second week in a row.
Minnesota posted the top performances in both the 800 meters and the 400 meters by Goaner Deng and Nate Roese, respectively. In the field, Sean Donnelly set a meet record for the weight throw at 21.90 meters. Gopher alumni, Zach Siegmeier won the pole vault at 5.15 meters. Gemechu Godi took first win in the 200 meters on Friday at 21.86 seconds.
WOMEN - The Golden Gopher women's track & field team took home two event titles on day one and five event titles on day two as Titania Markland, Kimberly Golding, Lyndsey Thorpe, and Heta Tuuri won their events and the Gophers won the 4x400-meter relay. Golding won the 60-meter hurdles title in 8.32 seconds, improving on HER Minnesota program record and setting a new Jack Johnson Classic meet record.
Though not taking first or second, in a scoring competition the Gophers would have done amazing in the pentathalon. Alex Beckman scored 3,749 which is third all-time. Sofie Albrechtsen also participated in the pentathalon with 3,747 points for fifth place, for fourth all-time - WowZa. Audra Winter took sixth with 3,728 points for sixth. Amanda Beckman scored 3,624 points for seventh.
